It is very important that each student is able to apply metaphors to the text they are reading. When you are writing your literary exploration on your diploma, you will be expected to have a strong unifying effect.
Please create a metaphor for the novel using the structure below. Make sure you fully explain your metaphor.
___(idea, feeling, or character)__ is a _____(Object)_____ because
Richie Perry’s life is a ladder and his experiences are the rungs. With each step he moves to new highs or new lows. When he is shot, he is pushed from his security and hits the ground. He has to push himself not to give up. To have hope. To attempt to climb again. Sometimes he climbs high enough to find clarity in all the commotion and chaos of the Vietnam War. His only hope is that someday he can reach the top and forget the struggle of each traumatizing step.

Richie's fallen brothers are empty bullet shells because they are no longer useful. They used to be powerful and could be the cause of distruction. Now they lay lifeless on the ground with no use in the "World". They have already done their damage.

Richie's courage is a strong breeze. It comes and goes. It never stays stays constant but when it blows by, you know it is there. When Richie finds courage everyone in the squad knows he's there. A breeze can always find its way into a building as courage can always find a way into you.
